Clementinium

The Clementinium is the second largest architectural complex after the Prague Castle. The history of the Clementinium begins in the XI century from the Cathedral of St. Clement, near which the Dominican Order founded a monastery. In the middle of the XVI century, the monastery passed to the Jesuit Order and began to expand rapidly.

At the beginning of the XVIII century the Astronomical Tower and the Mirror Chapel were built, both of which host exhibitions and concerts nowadays. Today the National Library is located in the Clementinium. Rarest books, frescoes, volumes, globes and astronomical clocks – all this can be found in the collection of the Baroque Library Hall of the Clementinium. In 2005 the Clementinium was added to the Memory of the World Register.
